A PUB and restaurant in Prestatyn has received a one-out-of-five food hygiene rating.

The Red Lion Inn & Restaurant, at Ffordd Talargoch, was given the poor score after an inspection on March 26.

The pub's cleanliness and the condition of its facilities and building were adjudged to be 'generally satisfactory'.

But inspectors marked the business down for its hygienic food handling, for which it was rated 'improvement necessary'.

The Red Lion's management of food safety was judged to be in need of "major improvement".

This refers to the system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the confidence a food safety officer has that standards will be maintained in future.

The pub has a TripAdvisor rating of 3.9 based upon 279 reviews, the most recent of which, from last month, said the business "wrecked Mother's Day".
