St Beuno’s College, Tremeirchion, applied to Denbighshire County Council’s planning committee for permission to build the 26 square metre prayer room at its listed building.
This was awarded by the planning committee today (April 7).

It is proposed that the development will comprise an open space for prayer which also highlights the views across the landscape, and a small terrace with stepped access from the existing pathway.
The prayer room will be located at the top of the centre’s garden, overlooking the main house and the Clywdian Range beyond.
The chosen site for the prayer room is within a wooded area, which is separated from the garden by a two-metre hedge.
The prayer room will be positioned behind the hedge, allowing it to be partially concealed by the vegetation and trees.
The small outdoor terrace area will allow visitors to pray outside if they wish.
Extracts from a design, access and heritage impact statement, submitted as part of the application, read: “These works are the next phase of a long-term vision for St. Beuno’s to ensure its future longevity as part of the Jesuit church, a role it has admirably fulfilled for over 150 years, most recently as a residential retreat centre.
“The revenue that has been generated through this use has continually been invested into the upkeep of the buildings, which ensures the continued maintenance of the building in the good order that is apparent today.
“However, in this modern climate there is an increasing demand from patrons and the community for better quality, modern facilities to be made available and to ensure the continuity of revenue for the upkeep of the buildings.
“The owners have identified that such provisions are necessarily required and have embarked on a masterplan which has set out a vision for the next 25 years, to accommodate the necessary changes whilst, at the same time, seeking to enhance both the buildings, landscape and all the aspects that visitors and the community value about St. Beuno’s.”
