Tributes paid to former North Wales assembly member Peter Rogers

As Vice President of the Ynys Môn Conservative Association, Mr Rogers ran in the 1999 National Assembly for Wales election for the Ynys Mon constituency.

He was elected to represent North Wales as one of the first 60 politicians to be part of the first Assembly, now known as the Welsh Parliament, in Cardiff Bay.

(Image: Newsquest) The Wrexham-born famer and magistrate also served as a councillor on Anglesey's council between 2004 and 2022.

Mr Rogers died in hospital at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, shortly after his 85th birthday.

Welsh Conservatives have expressed condolences.

Darren Millar MS, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, said: “I am deeply saddened to hear about Peter Rogers’ passing.

“Peter was a passionate advocate for rural Wales and a steadfast champion for the countryside and our farming communities.

“He will be sorely missed by those who knew him. My heartfelt condolences go out to his friends and family during this difficult time.”
