Farmers in Wales have been sharing the latest results from their on-farm trials, with a beef and sheep farm in Gwytherin set to host the final event.

The events, which have been taking place throughout September, are part of the Farming Connect 'Our Farms' network, which involves 15 farms.

The final event will be held at Cornwal Ucha in Abergele on September 27.

Farmer Dylan Roberts, who runs the farm with his wife, Gwenda, and son, Gwion, said he was looking forward to sharing the details of the on-farm trials.

He said: “I'm sure there will be a lot of interest and questions about the heifer synchronisation program and the different crops and pastures we have established to compare different ways of finishing lambs while making cost savings through reducing bought in concentrates.

"We are very lucky in Wales to have a body like Farming Connect here to support us in moving forward with the latest technology and innovation in our agricultural industry, it creates a unique agricultural community."

The 'Our Farms' farmers are involved in a range of projects that assess the effects of different practices, from feeding crimped peas and beans to pregnant ewes, to using real time data at silage making to drive milk production from forage.

Siwan Howatson, head of technical at Farming Connect, said the events have been a valuable opportunity for farmers in all sectors, including horticulture, to see the on-farm trials in action and learn about the results.

She said: "Connecting with farmers across Wales has been a highlight so far.

"These events have fostered a strong sense of community and have offered valuable insights and have given farmers a chance to connect and discover new things."

People attending the event will also hear from Rhys Owen, Procam, who will be discussing alternative forage options for finishing lambs, and Alisa McMillan from Wern Vets, who will be discussing improving suckler herd efficiency.

Also attending are Eurion Thomas, Techion, and Non Williams from Farming Connect, to discuss two Pan-Wales projects on anthelmintic resistance and herbal leys.

The trials were implemented in 2023 and have produced a wealth of information that the farmers and the experts they have been working with are ready to share.
