PHOTOS have been shared of the Northern Lights being spotted in the Prestatyn sky last night (August 12).
Ian Murray took the attached pictures, the astronomical phenomena also known as the Aurora Borealis, which was visible to the naked eye from Prestatyn yesterday.
He said: “They were taken just before midnight, at Barkby Beach.
“I had definitely seen them before while on an military exercise in Norway, but it’s a strange phenomenon that makes you feel alive.”

The Northern Lights are caused when atoms in the Earth's upper atmosphere combine with charged particles from the sun, creating the vibrant display.
They are more frequently seen at higher latitudes and places like Alaska, Canada, and Antarctica, which are closer to the Earth’s poles.
The Met Office issues the following tips to help you see the Northern Lights:
- You need a clear night with no cloud cover.
- Find a dark location with no light pollution.
- Look towards the northern horizon.
The Northern Lights are predicted to visible across the UK skies again tonight.
