ERYRI National Park has been named as one of the most 'desired wild camping spots' in the UK.

The national park was ranked 5th place by Auto Trader.

In research carried out by the automotive marketplace site, it was noted that Eryri received 12,000 searches per year for wild camping.

Auto Trader said: "Eryri National Park is home to some of the UK’s most imposing mountains and dramatic scenery. For those who may want to go on an off-grid adventure but aren’t keen on hiking all the way up Mount Snowdon, you can drive ‘a circle of Snowdon’ route, that will take you all the way around it, spotting the summit at various points on your journey.

"Camp overnight at eco campsite Ysgubor Wen Eco Camping for impressive, panoramic views of the national park."

Dartmoor took first place and is followed by the Lake District, Peak District and The Brecon Beacons.

Wild camping is the act of camping in areas other than designated camping sites. It is popular with backpackers and tent campers but laws are in place.

For the best experience, Eryri National Park advises people to stay in an official campsite and to book a place well in advance.

Wild camping is not permitted anywhere in Eryri without prior permission from the landowner or farmer. Camping in car parks or on roadside verges is not allowed at any time.

The National Park owns little land; therefore, the national park cannot give consent for the activity on other people’s land [including agricultural land, sate or private forest, National Trust property, riverside or coastal areas or land designated under the Countryside & Rights of Way Act as ‘open country’].

Anyone given permission from the landowner to wild-camp is advised to carry it out "responsibly and discretely" in the hills and mountains and should follow the Eryri Wild Camping Code.

A spokesperson for Autotrader said: "The recommendations are all based in the locations where people most want to go wild camping in the UK and provide the perfect travel inspiration for adventurous road trippers who want to get their 'wild' camping fix while keeping to the law."

Erin Baker, editorial director at Auto Trader, added: "Just make sure to ensure you’ve got permission to camp overnight before doing so, as the vast majority of Britain is private land. Avoid hefty fines and be sure to research ahead of time so you know where you can and can’t camp on your road trip through any of the UK’s areas of natural beauty.”
