THE first stage of the new UK-wide BoatLife Fishing Championship will be taking place at Conwy Marina on May 17-19.

Conwy has been selected as the first location for the national catch and release competition due to its “rich sea fishing history and stunning coastal scenery”.

Known for its diverse range of fish species, the tidal patterns of the Conwy Estuary will give seasoned professionals entering the pro competition and weekend anglers in the privateers competition the chance to show off their skills as well as compete for trophies and great prizes.

“This championship is not just a competition; it’s a celebration of our shared love for angling and the long-standing fishing heritage of these waters.” Richard Dove, BoatLife chief executive, said.

“It promises to be an unforgettable experience with something for everyone, from coveted trophies to exciting activities onshore and the chance to connect with fishing enthusiasts from near and far.

“Conwy is a favourite location for tourists with lots to see and do in the area.

“So, we are really excited and proud to hold the opening stage of the BoatLife Fishing Championship here and we’re looking forward to involving the community and local anglers in what will be a great weekend.”
