THE CAUSE of a fire at a pub in Colwyn Bay yesterday evening (April 22) is "thought to be electrical", the fire service has said.

Fire crews were called to the blaze at the former Pavilion pub site at around 6.30pm, with this section of Abergele Road closed while they tackled the fire.

Six crews from Colwyn Bay, Llandudno, Conwy and Abergele attended, as well as another unit from Rhyl.

The fire, believed to be down to an electrical problem, caused smoke damage to several rooms, as well as an adjacent building.

A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 18:36 yesterday (Monday 22 April) to a building fire on Abergele Road, Colwyn Bay.

"Six crews from Colwyn Bay, Llandudno, Conwy and Abergele attended as well as the Aerial Ladder Platform and Incident Command Unit from Rhyl.

"The fire caused severe heat and smoke damage to a room on the lower ground floor, smoke damage to the shop above and light smoke damage to an empty building alongside.

"The cause of the fire is thought to be electrical."
