PRESTATYN Carnival is set to return to the town this summer – with applications now open for stall holders and royal family members.

The carnival, which was held last year for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic, will take place on Saturday, July 20.

First held in 1921, the carnival provides a colourful spectacle as it winds its way down Prestatyn’s High Street and through the town centre to the carnival field on Bastion Road.

A competition will also take place for the parade’s best entry, with Prestatyn and Meliden mayor, Cllr Bob Murray, deciding that this year’s theme will be “the magic of musicals”.

The winner will receive a £250 prize, while the runner-up will be handed £100.

There are also competitions for best fancy dress, business, and non-profit group entries in the parade, which leaves the top of High Street at 12pm.

Spaces for food, retail, promotional, artisan and charity are still available from £20, and can be secured by emailing admin@prestatyncarnival.co.uk.

More than 3,000 visitors are expected to attend this year’s carnival, which is sponsored by Prestatyn Town Council.

The children who will lead the procession as part of the Prestatyn Carnival Royal Family are also to be chosen, with application closing on April 30.

To qualify for entry, children should be aged between five and 11 years old, and either live in Prestatyn or attend a Prestatyn or Meliden school.

To help with the cost of living crisis, Prestatyn Carnival Association will make a contribution to the cost of the dresses/outfits.

If you would like your child to be considered, please private message the carnival’s Facebook page.
