THE Post Office has apologised for one of its Rhyl branches being unable to be open throughout its advertised opening times.

The branch, which opened last year at 11 Bodfor Street, has been experiencing “staffing issues,” the Post Office said.

A resident had told the Journal: “Since it opened, it has been inconsistent with opening, and sometimes doesn’t open at all.”

The resident added that a previous complaint she lodged with the Post Office in February led to a response that there were “teething issues”.

Rhyl Post Office branch 'unavoidably closed' with hopes to re-open this month

But, she said, she was told that “these had all been sorted out and everything should be fine, but that postmasters set their own hours”.

She added: “The hours listed outside the shop are not adhered to. They are closed more than they are open and are not of any use to the local community, many of whom have no means to get to other Post Offices in the area.

“A Post Office is a community hub that is used for many purposes, and is not something we can afford to be without.”

In response, the Post Office said it hopes to recruit more staff at the Bodfor Street branch soon, so that it can remain open when it should be.

When the Post Office moved the High Street branch to Bodfor Street last year, it said there would be 81 hours of services a week – 35 more than previously.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “Rhyl Post Office has been experiencing staffing issues.

“We wish to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by the branch currently being unable to open for the hours advertised outside the branch.

“The postmaster is working hard to try to restore longer opening hours as soon as possible.

“An additional staff member will soon be working at the branch. There is also a poster at the branch advertising for staff.

“In the interim, the postmaster will keep www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder updated with the current opening hours.

“Customers are advised to check this website as it can quickly be updated to provide accurate, actual opening hours, for each day.

“There are also alternative branches at Highfield Park, St Margaret’s Drive and Rhyl Coast Road. These opening times and services provided are also advertised on www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder.”
