A yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of North Wales as strong winds get set to batter the area on Tuesday (April 9).

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for coastal areas of Wales which will be in place from 1am to 3pm on Tuesday due to strong winds.

These windy conditions could result in "hazardous" conditions and cause power outages and disruptions to travel, according to the Met Office.

The weather warning will affect parts of North Wales including Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire and Flintshire with some areas expected to get gusts of up to 65mph.

This latest weather warning comes off the back of Storm Kathleen which has wreaked havoc across the UK over the weekend.

The storm saw a "danger to life" weather warning issued for most parts of Wales on Saturday (April 6).

What to expect from the yellow weather warning in North Wales

  • Delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport

A Met Office spokesperson added: "A spell of strong winds blowing from the northwest will affect this region on Tuesday.

"Initially arriving across Southwest Wales, in the early hours of Tuesday, and reaching North Wales and Northwest England during Tuesday morning.

"Gusts will reach 40-50 mph widely, with 60 or 65 mph gusts expected for exposed coasts of Southwest and West Wales overnight.

"Winds will likely ease (although still remaining breezy) across Southwest and West Wales before dawn on Tuesday."

How to prepare for the yellow weather warning and strong winds

The Met Office has issued advice on how to prepare for the yellow weather warning on Tuesday and the hazardous conditions that could accompany it.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "If you are on the coast, stay safe during stormy weather by being aware of large waves.

"Even from the shore large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea. Take care if walking near cliffs; know your route and keep dogs on a lead.

"In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

"Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.

"Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.

"People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items."

The yellow weather warning will be in place across parts North Wales from 1am until 3pm on Tuesday, April 9.
