AN AUTOMATED teller machine (ATM) can remain in place on Prestatyn’s High Street after a retrospective application for planning permission was granted.

Principality Building Society installed an ATM at its Prestatyn branch, at 99 High Street, in the spring of 2022.

Yesterday (March 25), applications for the retention of the ATM and its associated signage on display were approved by Denbighshire County Council’s planning committee.

A supporting statement from applicants Cardtronics Ltd (trading as Cashzone), read: “We have installed an ATM to the left-hand side of the main entrance.

“The ATM has been installed through an existing glazing panel as a through a glazing installation.

“The property is situated within a residential area; we consider that the installation of this ATM would not be detrimental to the existing street scene.

“The purpose of the installation of this ATM is to provide a 24-hour banking facility for the local community and visitors to the area.”

Prestatyn Town Council raised no objections to the plans when consulted.

Debbie Luke, Prestatyn branch manager for Principality, said when the ATM first opened: “It is important that our members and the community of Prestatyn have free access to cash machines in the town.

“We have listened to what our members have told us, and already we have had so much positive feedback from people using the cash machine, saying it is so convenient having it here.

“It makes life a lot easier for people who prefer to use cash when they do their shopping on the high street.”
