A CONCERT was held in Prestatyn to raise funds to support war-torn Ukraine, and to mark the second anniversary since the country was invaded by Russia.

This took place on Saturday, February 24 at the Trinity Methodist Church, on Pendre Avenue – exactly two years since the outbreak of war.

The hall was full to capacity, and as well as musical performances, the event also involved Ukrainian gifts, cuisine, cakes and a raffle.

Organisers wanted to show guests what Ukraine was like before the war and what the country has become now, and stress that the war still continues and any kind of support is invaluable.

The event featured works by Ukrainian composers performed by violinists Olga and Denis, pianists Anna, Elina and Karolina, bandurist Iryna, children choir, singers Oleksandr and Maria as well as the opera singer Khrystyna.

During the break and after the event, guests played tombola, enjoyed home-made cakes made by Ukrainians, and had the opportunity to buy Ukrainian souvenirs.

A total of £2,910 was raised from the event, which will sent Ukraine to fund the purchases of tourniquets and first aid kits.

A number of similar events have previously been organised across Denbighshire and Conwy since Ukraine was first invaded by Russia on February 24, 2022.

The thousands of pounds raised from these events have previously helped purchase items such as medical supplies, a night vision device to assist in clearing Ukrainian territories of mines, and a car for a combat zone.
