A RHYL-based mental health and wellbeing performing arts group has received a surprise donation from members of Deeside charitable groups.

Following a Beat The Blues Brunch in January, a surprise visit from Deeside XRT, Deeside Round Table and Deeside Ladies Circle was organised to catch the Work in Progress team off-guard with a cheque for £1,000, raised from the event.

Rory Tompsett, chairman of Alyn & Deeside XRT 41 Club, said: "What a warm welcome it was. Work In Progress were unbelievably humbled and full of gratitude.

"We had a special performance of some work they are currently working on, a nice cup of tea, cake and a chat. And we even got to join in with some singing!

"The Beat The Blues Brunch event exceeded everyone's expectations on so many levels, as it not only shone a light on the importance of mental health awareness but also served as a platform for the talented performers of Work In Progress, who put positive mental health at the very heart of everything they do.

"Heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the Beat The Blues Brunch last month. Working with the amazing Work in Progress has been an inspiration!"

Leslie Churchill Ward, artistic director and co-founder of Work in Progress, said: "Thank you so much to our Round Table friends for this amazing donation. The feedback we received after our performances was fantastic. Our members felt accepted and respected; a huge gift in itself.

"The tagline for Work in Progress is 'We are all a Work in Progress. Together we can do so much!'. This incredibly generous donation embodies the true spirit of friendship and will help us do even more.

"By keeping our sessions free for our members, it means we can continue to be accessible to all and keep doing the work that we're so passionate about."
