A MAN from Rhyl who inflicted sexual abuse upon a child, and was found to be in possession of more than 3,000 indecent images, has been jailed.

Ryan Davies, 43, of Brighton Road, was sentenced to six years and four months’ imprisonment at Caernarfon Crown Court today (February 1).

He had previously admitted all of the sexual offences with which he had been charged.

Prosecuting, Sarah Badrawy told the court that, in April 2019, police received a report that Davies had been taking naked photographs of, and engaging in sexual conversation with, the child.

When the indecent still and moving images were found on his seized electronic devices, he said he “didn’t know how they got there”, but denied he had deliberately sought them.

The indecent images and videos were said to depict male and female children aged between one and 13 years old.

Police were later told by the child of further allegations about Davies, namely that he had acted in a sexually inappropriately manner.

These included asking the child to pose naked on a chair while he took pictures, encouraging them to take their clothes off and perform sex acts, forcing them to watch pornography, and touching the child sexually.

When he was interviewed again in September 2022, Davies denied having a sexual interest in children.

In a statement, the child said the abuse has been to the detriment of their mental health, and accused Davies of having “downplayed” it.

The child added they have since suffered from nightmares and have struggled to sleep, adding: “This has taken me so long to process mentally.”

Defending Davies, who had two previous convictions for dissimilar matters some time ago, Simon Mintz asked for the court to treat him as a man of “practically good character”.

Davies “hasn’t got a bad work record,” Mr Mintz added, having worked as a sound technician up to his arrest, and had “wisely” pleaded guilty to his charges.

Sentencing, Judge Huw Rees told Davies he had behaved in an “invidious and damaging” manner to satisfy his “own perverted needs”.

He added: “You’ve never really appreciated the trauma of the abuse you’ve caused; trauma that would be enduring.”

Davies was also made subject to a sexual harm prevention order, and a restraining order, each lasting 10 years.

In addition, he must adhere to sex offenders register notification requirements indefinitely, while a deprivation order was made in respect of his seized devices.
