OMCE the throbbing heart of Rhyl's nightlife, the bar formerly known as Scruples closed its doors for good in 2019.

But memories of the popular nightclub continue to dance in the minds of its erstwhile patrons.

Recently, regulars took to Facebook to share their best reminiscences of the West Parade hotspot last dubbed Fusion.

Although over the years it was known as Kings, Nutz, Frankies, C-jays, Zinc, Vanilla Lounge, and Zu Bar.

Natalie Calvert, who met her now-husband at Scruples 19 years ago, said: "This was our go to on a Saturday night.

"And a Thursday night for £1 bottles of reef!!! We’ve been married 14 years this year!!"

Rhyl Journal:

Lorraine Seed shared a photo of herself, adding: "This was me in Scruples in 1997!"

Sally Godden fondly recalled the vibe of the place saying: "The queue to get in used to be mental!

"Amazing memories and the best vodka bar ever!!"

The variety of vodka flavours offered by the club was definitely a highlight for Phil Morris and Richard Jones, both of whom remembered the ‘vodka shots bar’.

Phil noted: "Blurry memories of the vodka shots bar in the corner which had over 30 different flavours on the menu, my favourite was the mars bar flavour, and club Zinc upstairs dancing on the podiums."

Rhyl Journal:

Peet Rothwell shared a photo of him working behind the bar, adding that he "worked there and used to play in a band every Sunday afternoon for a summer".

Richard Jones added: "I remember being on the Scruples mailing list and they would POST you a newsletter and vouchers!! I also have vague memories of a vodka bar serving pretty much every flavour under the sun!"

Yet the allure of Scruples wasn't just about the drinks or dance floor.

Nathan Jones took a fun walk down memory lane, saying: "Got bundled onto a fire escape staircase and frisked by Darth Vader in the late 90’s.

"And no I wasn’t in possession of or selling E’s!!"

Tony O'Reilly's unusual encounter at the bar was another memory worth recalling: "The magician who sat with us one night at the bar doing all his tricks."

Amy Lou echoed many when she summed up: "Some brilliant nights in Scruples and Club Zinc."

It's clear from these fond memories that Scruples was far more than just a nightclub to its loyal patrons.

Even with its infamous corner shots bar now a mere ghostly whisper, a shared sugary spectre of mars bar vodka shots, the friendships, relationships, and memories forged at Scruples continue to endure.

The strong sense of nostalgia among the comments suggests that Scruples left a lasting impact on its patrons – not just a disco imprint on the soles of their feet, but also a memorable tattoo on their hearts.

As Caroline Berry simply put it: "Loved the cocktails."

Meanwhile, Jon Harland, a top fan, revealed: "Mud wrestling."

Louise Card, who chose discretion over openness quipped: "Becky El Paula Cleary Heulwen Stevens even if we could find the photos I don’t think we would post them here!! Great times though."

Drawing the curtains on its vibrant history, Scruples proved itself to be more than just a club.

For many, it represented a cherished part of their youth, an intoxicating mix of music, dance, and unexpected encounters, making it a locus of unforgettable memories.
