A FAMILY from Prestatyn have told of their relief that their pet rabbit was found by their own cat, after it had been missing from their home for more than a day.

Mum Becky Kelly said the family’s one-year-old bunny, Daisy, left their home after winds from Storm Isha blew her hutch door open on Monday morning (January 22) and she escaped.

But last night (January 23), Daisy safely returned home with Nula, the family’s eight-year-old cat, after she had been sent out to look for her.

Becky, who said that Daisy has an “absolutely lovely” bond with her 10-year-old daughter, Grace, said they were “jumping for joy” when the rabbit came back home yesterday evening.

She said: “It was so strange – the wind blew our fence down and her hutch door wide open, so it was Daisy’s chance to escape into the unknown.

“She’s Grace’s bunny - she absolutely adores her; she sings to her, and their bond is so lovely.

“When I had to tell her (Daisy was missing), she was absolutely heartbroken. She was crying her eyes out all day, and couldn’t eat or sleep.

“Often, you don’t know if a rabbit is coming home. You just think they go off to a warren or burrow, and they don’t usually come back.”

The family have looked after Daisy since she was a baby rabbit, but feared they had lost her for good when she failed to return home later on Monday.

After Daisy had been gone for roughly a full 24 hours, Becky sent Nula out, on the off-chance that the family cat would bring home their fellow pet.

The fact that she did, Becky said, was a “miracle”.

She added: “It’s so weird, isn’t it? It just shows you how animals bond. As bizarre as it sounds, I never expected Nula to find Daisy.

“We had been out searching for her everywhere, but there was no sign of her. Where she actually went to, I’ve no idea.

“None of us could believe it, we just all jumped for joy. It was absolutely amazing. We never thought it would happen; it was a miracle that she got home, with the cat in tow.

“Daisy’s absolutely fine; I think she had the time of her life. It’s like she’s been on holiday!

“They (Daisy and Nula) have really bonded; they’re really sweet together at home. We're just glad we had a happy ending.”
