RHYL-based performing arts group, Work in Progress, was part of the integrated entertainment at the “Beat The Blues Brunch” event last weekend.

Work in Progress, which puts positive mental health and wellbeing at the heart of everything it does, gave performances at the event, organised by Alyn & Deeside XRT 41 Club, Deeside Round Table and Deeside Ladies Circle.

At both sessions, The Hawarden Masonic Hall was full to capacity.

Work in Progress integrated their performances amongst the guests as they enjoyed a hearty breakfast prepared by award-winning chefs Danny Burke and Col Devitt.

A spokesperson for Work in Progress said: “Both performances were a huge success, sending both powerful and emotional messages, as well as fun and joy, to attendees.

“Countless people were deeply affected by the singing and performing art as the messages in each of the pieces resonated, and demonstrated how music and compassion can help overcome mental health issues and social exclusion.

“There were passionate personal messages from Work in Progress individuals that outlined how being part of this group, without judgement, and with the encouragement of others, helps get you through very difficult times.

“The final session ended with a fantastic rendition of ‘Freedom’ and many of the audience enthusiastically joined in.

“Guests were then treated to an impromptu joint session with Work in Progress and Helen Shanley performing ‘Proud Mary’ which rounded off a very memorable Sunday morning.

“Work in Progress are thrilled to have been part of the ‘Beat The Blues Brunch’ to raise awareness of mental health issues, and to receive funds raised from the event. Thank you everyone for your support — together, we can do so much!”
