THE FAMILY of a former pub landlord in Rhyl who has died said he was “very kind and loving”.

Frank Constantine, former landlord of The Royal Oak in Rhyl, died aged 82 on December 7, 2023.

He was born on April 10, 1941 in Liverpool, and was a lifelong Everton who “loved football”, his family said.

Frank joined the army at the age of 17, and served for 12 years in places such as Borneo, Malaysia, and Aden, Yemen.

While in the army, he met Sue, who later became his wife, and with whom he had sons Andrew and Stuart.

After being stationed at the Kinmel Bay military camp, the family decided to move to North Wales permanently, where Frank worked as a milkman.

He and Sue eventually became landlord and landlady of the popular Royal Oak pub, where they finally settled and made a lot of friends.

They retired from the pub in 2005, but Sue sadly passed away just a few months later, prompting Frank to find work as a chaperone for employees at the Asda supermarket, where he “went to all the meals out and parties his colleagues had”.

He is survived by his children, brother Tony, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

His family told the Journal: “He was lovely family man who loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

“He was very kind and loving and was an Everton supporter who loved his football.”

His funeral took place at St. Margaret’s Church, Bodelwyddan yesterday (January 11), with a wake at the Kinmel Manor Hotel in Abergele.
