THE door to the reception of the RSPCA clinic in Rhyl was allegedly vandalised last month.

This incident, which a spokesperson for the Vaughan Street clinic said took place on December 6, was subsequently reported to police.

It comes at a time when the branch is in particular need of donations to afford a new blood machine, as well as muzzles to fit on XL bully dogs.

XL bullies must be kept on a lead and muzzled when out in public, with owners having until January 31 to apply for an exemption certificate.

Sylvia Moss, treasurer of the Clwyd and Colwyn branch in Rhyl, said: “We had another incident last month of someone trying to kick our reception door in.

“Two footprints could clearly be seen on the glass. Our van was also found to have a screw embedded in the tyre.

“We are desperate for a blood machine, which would save having to turn away clients and sending them to costly private vets.

“The sick animal could be diagnosed immediately and treatment started instead of sending blood away to be analysed.”

In September, Sylvia told of how the clinic has been “cutting our charges to the bone” and extended its opening hours, but is still struggling to make money.

It is also “desperate for volunteers”, she added.

At the end of 2022, meanwhile, the branch was repeatedly targeted by vandals, with such incidents including:

  • Nails inserted into several tyres, which could have resulted in accidents.
  • Dog waste pushed through the clinic door.
  • Newly fitted double glazed reception doors smashed, resulting in a client's dog being injured when treading on the broken glass.
