A SEARCH has been launched to find the owner of an underweight kitten that was found sheltering from the cold in the engine bay of a parked car.

The sweet kitten, estimated to be about 16 weeks ago, was found on Ffordd Derwen in Rhyl.

Prior to the rescue, a kitten was seen walking on her own around Brickfield Pond. It is thought to be the same moggy but this has not been confirmed.

When the Wilfred & Friends group found her on December 29, she had found shelter in a engine bay of the car.

It took a pouch of kitten food to coax her out.

Emma Weir, founder of Wilfred & Friends Animal Ambulance and Pet Transport in Rhyl, said: "This kitten was seen outside, alone, in the same area for up to two weeks. The owner was not nearby and the kitten has not been wandering the local area, but staying in the same place hiding from the cold.

"This kitten was found hiding in a car engine bay for warmth. She was not living there. She had been wandering Ffordd Derwen and then had climbed up into the engine bay of a car which is very dangerous. She was also very underweight. We have taken her in off the street to ensure she is safe, warm, and fed.

"We are doing what we can to find her owner, and will hand her over immediately when we succeed.

"On the chance that we are unable to find her owner, we will have to hand her over to a larger rescue as we only have a team of short-term fosterers and don’t have a full rescue facility ourselves. It is standard practice in these places to put animals up for adoption after seven days unclaimed."

The kitten has not been chipped.

Emma added: "We still believe this kitten to have had an owner, as she is very friendly and confident with people.

"She is currently staying with a fosterer of ours. If you believe you recognise this kitten and know of her owners, please contact us through messenger with any and all details you may have.

"Proof of ownership will be required before surrendering of the kitten."

Emma, who is helped by her partner Ryan, said everything the rescue service does is in the name of lamb Wilfred, Emma's first rescue.

"My gorgeous little lamb who passed away almost three years ago," Emma said.

"Everything we do is for the safety and welfare of the animals but it is not a solo mission. We couldn’t do what we do without the amazing rescues such as Shad’s Legacy Northop, Finding Furever Homes, and the inspiring network of pound pullers whose mission is to save as many animals as they can."
