A MAN from Rhyl who “tried forever to be a dad” has said he has been left stranded in Nigeria after going to the country to become a father.

Steven Scott, 38, became a dad to Kai and Luca on June 19, but fears being left penniless in his battle to return home.

He said that he has now been in Nigeria for six months but, despite claiming that his surrogacy agency said it would look after his Visa and accommodation, this has not materialised.

Now desperate to come back to the UK safely with his twins, Steven has pleaded for help from the authorities, as well as from his MP, Dr James Davies.

He said: “I’ve essentially been here illegally since July, so at any point, I could be arrested and deported without my children.

“In total, I think this has cost me about £50,000.

“I’m having to move into cheaper accommodation, and am trying to sell everything just to pay my rent. Next Sunday is another rent day, and I’m still trying to figure out how to pay that.

“I’m currently in an apartment which is too expensive, so I’m trying to find somewhere cheaper, but the problem is trying to find also somewhere safe for the kids.

“I’ve used everything I have to keep the rent paid, so even if I got my passport tomorrow, I don’t even have money to fly yet. It just gets worse and worse.

“I’m just fighting every day to try and survive.”

Dr Davies confirmed he has been in contact with Steven, and with the Home Office, regarding his current predicament.

He said: “I was sorry to hear of Steven’s situation in Nigeria.

“I have been in contact with Steven regarding his children’s passports, and I will continue to liaise with the Home Office going forwards.”

Phil Crossland, a close friend of Steven’s, also pleaded for help in ensuring that he and his children return safely to the UK.

He said: “Steve is a good friend of mine. He’s had to try and find ways to get money to him from his savings and other means, and I've been sending it to him via an app, as there has been no other way.

“The kennels he had his dogs in have requested they are taken out by December 23, so I have to move into Steve’s house with his dogs, leaving my family over Christmas.

“Currently, I'm trying to sell his car to help him afford some way of living.”

Steven added: “I've used every penny I can find, and I've sold everything I can sell, to keep my kids safe here.

“I've used flight ticket money and lawyer fees just to keep a roof over our heads here.

“I'm scared and alone, and everything is falling apart. I fear I may lose my children if I don't find a way to raise money.”
