A SPECIAL Christmas event and toddler groups are among the latest ideas to be brought to a community hub in Rhyl.

High Street Hwb, at 1-4 East Parade, is to hold a Christmas party on Sunday, December 17 from 12-4pm, where children can also meet and eat with Father Christmas, for £4 per child.

There will be plenty of games and activities for children to enjoy, as well as a Christmas sweet cone each to tuck in to.

The toddler group, aimed at new-born babies upwards, is due to start on Monday, January, 8, and will be held weekly from 9-11.30am.

It will involve soft play, “song time” and snacks for the youngsters to enjoy.

Samara Burton, a volunteer, said the aim is to make the hub “a big success, and a safe place for anyone and everyone, no matter their circumstances and financial state”.

She added: “We hope Denbighshire can come together as a community to help us, so we can help all of those that need it, big or small.

“Anyone and everyone is welcome, even if they are not local - High Street Hwb is for anyone who can attend.”

The site that the hub occupies was previously used by Woolworths and Gala Bingo, before it was left abandoned after a £1.5million cannabis farm was found there in 2021.

After opening last year under Rhyl businessman Stephen Wright (Sovereign Trophies), the hub has since expanded to host a soft play area, a weekly craft fair, a pool table, and a “rent a shelf” scheme.

The hub also offers free printing for CVs, job applications and missing pet posters, and no charge for any good causes who need to use the space.

It also operated as a storage and drop-off point for a toy giveaway it hosted last Christmas.

There are also plans for a foodbank to be set up at the hub, as well as a “school uniform exchange”.
