A NEW scheme has been launched by Town & Kinmel Bay Town Council to provide gift hampers for elderly residents in the area this Christmas.

“Santa for a Senior” was the idea of deputy mayor, Cllr Anna MacAuley, and has been backed by North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, ASDA and Conwy County Borough Council.

As part of the scheme, people are being asked to donate any of the following items: bed socks, blankets, gloves, hats, scarves, notepads, books, chocolates, confectionery, personal care items, grooming items, umbrellas, flasks, tinned/box biscuits, lightweight mugs, insulated cups, handkerchiefs, jigsaws, marmalade/jams.

Donations can be dropped off at any of the following places:

  • Towyn and Kinmel Bay Town Council offices.
  • Tanz n Hair, Kinmel Bay.
  • Kinmel Bay Library.
  • St Mary’s Church, Towyn.
  • The Kinmel Bay Club.
  • Y Morfa Leisure Centre.
  • 2K Hair Salon, Towyn.

Cllr MacAuley said: “Our aim is to make sure as many elderly people in our area receive a gift hamper this Christmas.

“With the assistance of North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, we will deliver the gifts the week before Christmas.

“Jeanette Sanderson-Roberts, from Tanz n Hair, has really got behind this campaign and has managed to collect lots of donations, and also managed to collect names of the senior citizens who would like a gift.

“She has worked tirelessly in this campaign and has lived in Kinmel Bay all her life. With her help, we have already managed to make up 14 Christmas hampers.

“We have secured some funding for this campaign, but have also been blown away by the kindness of our local businesses and also our community.

“It makes me proud to live in Kinmel Bay amongst such kind and caring residents.

“To date, we have over 100 names to take a gift hamper to, and we expect this number to rise as the weeks go by.

“If anyone would like to donate a gift or nominate an elderly person in the Towyn and Kinmel Bay area, then please get in touch.”
