INTERNAL work at the Oak Tree Centre in Rhyl is now complete, with children now able to use all of the centre’s the new facilities.

The extension has been funded utilising Welsh Government capital funding and is in line with their ‘Prosperity for All’ commitment to introduce Community Learning Centres, which provide extended services with childcare, parenting support, family learning and community access to facilities built around the school day.

The new extension and facilities have enabled the centre to deliver additional places, which are split between English Medium and Welsh Medium provision.

The remaining external work that is outstanding at the centre will be completed before the end of 2023.

The new facilities for the Little Acorns childcare provision have increased the overall capacity of the centre and support both English and Welsh language provision.

The project is funded by the Welsh Government’s Childcare Offer Capital Grant Programme and forms part of an overall investment of more than £3million in improving childcare facilities in Denbighshire.

The Oak Tree Integrated Children’s Centre, situated on the grounds of Christchurch Primary School, Rhyl, is a Care Inspectorate Wales Centre of Excellence and Flagship Centre for Early Years Education and Childcare, managed by Denbighshire County Council.

It is also a training centre for childcare workforce across Denbighshire to improve delivery of foundation phase and childcare across the sector.

Councillor Gill German, deputy leader and lead member for education, children and families said: “We are immensely proud to have the Oaktree Integrated Children’s Centre in Rhyl, with the range of services offered there considered to be a model of good practice in Wales.

“Thanks to the Flying Start Capital Grant awarded to us by Welsh Government, we are delighted to have been able to improve and extend our childcare facilities there and provide extra places for children in the community, including early education in the Welsh language in our newly established Cylch.

“This is excellent news for the community, and I am so pleased that this work will provide an opportunity for more children to attend quality early years education, thereby better preparing them for their future primary education and beyond.”
