RESIDENTS are being warned to take care after three holes opened up on the beach near to the Events Arena.

Sue Holdsworth came across the deep craters whilst walking her dog on the Rhyl beach early this morning.

Sue said: "I was surprised and I was concerned my dog was going to fall into one of them as she did go to the edge and the edge started crumbling but she soon backed away.

"However, as I was taking photographs of the two holes, the third one opened up and I fell in it. I didn’t really hurt myself. My knee is a bit sore and my back and neck are aching, but I think it was more my pride that was hurt than anything else.

"Being disabled, it was a less than dignified scramble to get out.

"I walk my dog, slowly, on the beach around 6.45am most week days so I have been watching the sea defences work approaching with interest.

"I haven’t seen anything like this before but I am used to seeing the tyre tracks and tripping over all the dropped rocks which litter the sands these days.

"I presume they fall from the tipper truck as it ambles along to wherever they are working. However, had anyone been there in the dark, they could have had a nasty fall."

Sue has reported the holes to Denbighshire County Council and D Morgan.

A spokesperson for Denbighshire County Council said: "The contractor who is working nearby is aware of this, and work has been carried out this morning to rectify the issues."

Last month, a council truck was swallowed by a massive sink hole on Rhyl Promenade.

About a third of the vehicle disappeared underground but fortunately nobody was injured.

A Denbighshire Council spokesperson said at the time: "The council is aware of an incident which involved one of its refuse collection vehicles on the promenade in Rhyl this morning.

"The area has been secured with barriers and there is still safe passage for pedestrians."
