A COUPLE of vehicles which were left stuck in water near Abergele during Storm Babet were brought to safety thanks to two helpful teenagers.

Adam Turner, 17, and Kian Williams, 16, managed to help out the drivers of a BMW and a Mercedes after their cars were swamped in water during Friday’s (October 20) flooding.

Between 2-3pm on Friday, the cars were stuck by the Elwy Bridge in Llanfair Talhaiarn, next to Olivia’s café, when the boys helpfully pushed them out of the water.

“It’s something I’ve always done growing up, helping people in the village,” said Adam, who lives in Llanfair TH.

“It’s our community. They were both very grateful.

“I helped out in the village putting flood defences up, and Kian and I were standing there when a car broke down, so we just went up to it and pushed it back, out of the water.

“It wasn’t that hard to push the cars; it was probably harder to walk through the water; it was up to my knees, and it was very cold!”

The two boys pushed the cars back by about 400 yards, into the car park of Olivia’s café.

Ruth Davies, Adam’s mum, added: “It’s something we’ve always done, living in that small community. Llanfair TH is quite prone to flooding when the River Elwy spills over.

“Since Adam and his older brother have been six or seven, they’ve always come out to help members of the community – we have a ‘flood watch’ WhatsApp group, where we all keep in touch with each other.

“Adam and Kian came down to check residents’ flood defences on their houses, and Adam was going to check that his dad’s memorial bench alongside the river was still intact.

 “I’m very proud of him.”
