A MAN who is writing a book about a film shot in Prestatyn in 1973 has reiterated his call for residents to share their memories as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.

Richard Coghill is putting together a “behind the scenes” book about the comedy “Holiday on the Buses”, which starred Reg Varney and Doris Hare and was filmed at Pontins’ Prestatyn camp.

He urged anyone with a story to tell to contact him – “they may have been working at the holiday camp, or staying at the camp with family; anyone, really”.

You can email Richard, who hopes to release “Memories of Holiday on the Buses” soon, at: richardcoghill@hotmail.com.

He said: “As memories continue to come in, I would be delighted to hear from anyone who may have been working at the holiday camp at the time, any locals seen in the background of the film, or witnessed filming at the likes of Dyserth Waterfall, the beach, or on Pontins itself.

“Any photographs that you would like to share, please do add in.

“It has been great hearing from people who watched the same scenes being filmed, but had a completely different story to tell. It has been a pleasure reading them.

“One thing is very clear, and that is the locals still recall vividly the weeks that film giants ‘Hammer Films’  came to town, and the excitement it brought.”

In July, a reunion event which Richard helped organise was held at the camp to celebrate 50 years of the film.

Surviving cast members, crew, 1973 Pontins staff, holidaymakers who were background extras, and fans gathered together to celebrate the film across the weekend.

Special guests included Maureen Sweeney (Mavis), Cynthia Price (extra), Craig Walker, and Larry Achtner (a Pontins staff member during the filming).

A documentary about the film is also in the works.
