A TAKEAWAY in Rhyl has been handed a new zero-out-of-five food hygiene rating, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows.

Eastern Delight, at 10 Kinmel Street, Rhyl was given the minimum score after assessment on August 2.

The report into the business rated its hygienic food handling and the cleanliness and condition of its facilities and building ‘improvement necessary’.

The takeaway’s management of food safety was rated ‘urgent improvement necessary’.

Management of food safety refers to the system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the confidence the food safety officer has that standards will be maintained in future.

Eastern Delight has a TripAdvisor rating of 3.0 based off 70 reviews, with the latest review from two weeks ago saying the food was “inedible” and the customer service was “despicable”.

Eastern Delight was approached for comment.

It means that of Denbighshire's 103 takeaways with ratings, 53 (51 per cent) have ratings of five and just two have zero ratings.

The food hygiene rating scheme gives businesses in England and Wales a rating of 0-5, 5 being the highest, based on their hygiene standards.

The scheme is run in partnership with local authorities and in Wales businesses are obligated to display their rating.
