A FAMILY attraction has been taking giant dinosaur-sized steps to ensure people who struggle to communicate feel included in their roaring event.
Manorafon Farm Park in Abergele, who have been running their 'Dinosaur Adventure' this summer, tasked their resident magician Andy Green to add Makaton signing into the Abra-Ca-Dino magic show this summer.
It is estimated that more than 100,000 children and adults use Makaton signs and symbols, either as their main method of communication or as a way to support speech. It uses speech with signs (gestures) and symbols (pictures) to aid communication.
“With the popularity of CBeebie’s Mr Tumble ond Nick Jnrs’ Blues Clues use of Makaton in a fun entertaining way for children, it was an obvious decision to help even more families enjoy our prehistoric experience,” said Will Arrowsmith, managing director and head event organiser.
Andy added: "It’s been an interesting task to add Makaton into the show, as a magician I need my hands to do magic tricks. It’s been like patting my head and rubbing my tummy at times to do the two things at once but such a fantastic challenge.
"The feedback from staff at a local special needs school who visited recently was great, it has been warmly welcomed.”
Dinosaur Adventure is running until September 2. As well as 20 'life-like Dinosaurs' there is an explorers trail, T-rex enclosure, selfie opportunities and a giant sand pit filled with bones to find.
