THEATR Clwyd's Theatre Mix to host incredible storytelling dramas this September.

Acclaimed writer, storyteller and performer James Rowland brings not one but two shows to the venue.

Learning to Fly (September, 7) sees James tell the story of a remarkable friendship he made when he was a lonely, unhappy teenager with the scary old lady who lived in the spooky house on his street.

Rhyl Journal:

It's about connection, no matter what the obstacles; about love's eternal struggle with time; about music and its ability to heal. With a 5 star review from the Guardian, it's not to be missed.

James has been touring his storytelling theatre shows for half his adult life, but returning home after a stint away he received a letter that exploded his life, and the tour became a search: for one person who sent it, for a sense of where he comes from, and to maybe save a life.

In Piece of Work (September, 8) he explores how the landscapes we exist in physically affect the way we think and feel. How searching for something is an end in itself, regardless of whether the search is successful.

It's about a sense of home, and the hope that makes our lives liveable. This follows James' critically acclaimed aforementioned show, Learning To Fly and features James’ captivating mix of storytelling, music and comedy.

Tightrope Theatre present Ikaria (September, 19-20). Written and directed by Philippa Lawford, the show is a love story about finding salvation in someone else.

Simon has returned to Uni after taking a year out. He just wants to get on with his finals and not slip back into old, destructive habits. Mia, a first year, is embracing the explosive freedom of life away from home.

Simon doesn’t want to leave his room. But then he meets Mia.

IKARIA was awarded a runner-up prize for the Ambassador Theatre Group Playwrights’ Prize 2022, in association with Platform Presents and Time Out.
