A mother-of-two from Towyn has converted an horsebox into her own unisex barbers/salon business.

Carla Cox, who has been a hairdresser for more than 20 years, has started The Barber Box having been inspired by other barbers operating in converted shipping containers at retail parks.

The Barber Box is set up on Tir Prince Market, and opened last weekend to ‘really positive feedback’.

“After having my children I worked part time in various salons and barbers in the area so I had plenty of time to raise my children as a single mum,” Carla told the Journal.

“My children are both in their teens now and very independent - I decided to go back to work full time last summer.”

The horsebox had already been renovated, but Carla ‘put her own stamp on it’, redecorating and renaming it with the sign done by graphics company Viper Graphics, also from the area.

Carla said: “I’ve been hairdressing locally for 23 years and decided it was time for a change.

“I've wanted my own business for a while so now is the perfect time.

“I've seen a few barbers on retail parks in converted shipping containers so that gave me the idea - I always wanted something in Towyn as there is only one other salon and it gets very busy in the holiday season.

“I set up on the market last weekend and I've had really positive feedback from everyone that’s seen it!”

The Barber Box is easily recognisable, with all black livery – and is surely the first horsebox of its kind in the region.
