Millions of viewers tuned in to see the final episode on Sunday, March 12, and critics gave it glowing reviews, including the final scene at Blenheim Palace.

In the final moments, Endeavour star Shaun Evans left the stately home following a choir performance in a black Jaguar, driving past John Thaw's iconic red Jaguar.

John Thaw died in 2002, so his lookalike John McHale was brought in to film the scenes.

Following the finale episode director Kate Saxon tweeted: "Not had a chance to read every message about last night's Endeavour yet but I will! Thanks so much for your support."

Rhyl Journal:

Actor Shaun Evans tweeted: "A wonderful and worthy finale. Beautiful nod to Inspector Morse and his maroon Jag. None of our loved ones killed, but everybody´s heart broken.

"Now it´s time to let go, and cherish the wonderful memories. ´What did you say your name was?"

Rhyl Journal:

Mr Evans will now lead the cast of Delia Balmer, alongside Line of Duty and Motherland actress Anna Maxwell Martin.

The series, which is currently in production under the working title Delia Balmer, will explore the real-life story of Delia who survived a near-fatal relationship with murderer John Sweeney.

The four-part series will air on ITV1 and ITX at dates to be fixed, and sees Anna portray the title character and Shaun Evans play John Sweeney, who is currently serving a life sentence for murdering his former girlfriends.
