A NEW project based in Rhyl aims to support people from across Denbighshire currently housed in emergency accommodation.

Denbighshire County Council has awarded The Salvation Army the contract to run the Temporary Emergency Accommodation Support Project.

In order to deliver this project, more than 20 new roles have been created to work with vulnerable people in the area.

Some of the roles currently being advertised are:

  • Service manager
  • Specialist support worker (engagement and activities)
  • Citizen floating support workers
  • Citizen support workers
  • Citizen assistant support workers

The team will be working together to deliver a range of activities focussing on helping people to engage with the community, improve their home lives, and boost their health to build an independent and positive future.

This will include supporting them to create connections in the community to engage with activities; taking advantage of volunteering opportunities; as well as engaging in learning and developing skills for the job market.

Staff will also assist people with practical life skills from cooking to property maintenance; help them to access health services and signpost individuals to support and community groups to develop friendships which should enable them to regain their independence.

Catherine Docherty, Salvation Army assistant regional manager, Wales and Southwest, said: “This is an exciting new project, and these roles are essential to support families and individuals in the Rhyl area who are experiencing homelessness.

“The activities the team will deliver will help individuals to rebuild their lives and enable them to build a better future for themselves.

“The Salvation Army have 150 years of history in supporting vulnerable groups in our society. We are pleased to be able to bring our expertise in this field to support people in Rhyl.”

“We know that being homeless is a worrying and stressful experience.

“Having a dedicated team of workers to engage with individuals to build a better future is part of the council’s commitment to ensure a fairer, safe and more equal Denbighshire and to prevent homelessness ensuring any instances of it are rare, brief and unrepeated.”
