POLICE were given extra powers to stop and search people following incidents involving "violence with weapons".
Officers in North Wales were granted a Section 60. This was in place for 24-hours in Rhyl [in the locality of the map pictured below] and came to an end at 6pm on Sunday night (March 12).
A spokesperson for the force said: "The authority has been granted due to violence related incidents that have occurred in the Rhyl area Friday (March 10) evening involving violence with weapons, and may be linked to other recent incidents of violence. The powers give officers the ability to stop and search persons without the normal grounds."
A spokesperson for the force told the Journal on Monday (March 13): "We were made aware of an incident over the weekend, which is currently under investigation.
"Additional officers were deployed into specific areas of our local community, supported by the temporary implementation of a Section 60 Order, for use at their discretion.
"No further incidents occurred, and the order has now been rescinded."
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation should contact police via their live webchat online or on 101. Quote reference: A035346.
