ZIP World has said there is no update on when its Skyflyer attraction will make its delayed launch in Rhyl after aiming for an opening of February half-term.

The airship, to be located along the town’s beachfront, was initially due to open in July 2022, but was delayed due to wind and weather conditions not being ideal to perform its first full inflation.

It was then postposed until early August, but an “engineering and design challenge” found during testing led the company to confirm that it would not be possible to launch in 2022.

Zip World then said that its aim was to launch by the half-term week in February, but when asked by the Journal today (February 2), the company had no further update.

A Zip World statement on August 5 said: “While we’re aiming for a February half-term launch date, we are not currently in a position to confirm a new launch date just yet.”

Earlier that week, Zip World had said it was looking to launch the Skyflyer in “early 2023”.

The attraction had been inflated on July 27, but was then deflated on August 1 after the postponement.

If and when it eventually launches in Rhyl, visitors will be raised to heights of 400ft, and will be able to enjoy panoramic views of the North Wales coast and beyond.

The attraction is accessible to all, including wheelchair users, and features other support equipment for those with disabilities.

“Big Red” – the largest mobile zip in the world – will be located adjacent to Skyflyer, allowing children to ride alongside one another on 270ft zip line.

A document in the Skyflyer's planning application, submitted to Denbighshire County Council, states: "The balloon is anticipated to carry up to 30 passengers and one operator vertically to 120m and descend over a time period of eight minutes.

"It is anticipated it will be operational all year round, from 10am to 8pm in summer, and 10am to 3pm in winter."
