A SALON in Kinmel Bay which used its premises as a children’s Christmas present drop-off point was overwhelmed to receive more than 200 donations.

“HAIR @ Lainey Hughes”, on Foryd Road, put its Christmas tree up in early November, and residents and customers were encouraged to leave gift donations underneath it.

A new idea, it initially came from Cllr Anna Macauley (Towyn & Kinmel Bay Town Council; Kinmel Bay ward), a regular at the salon.

On December 9, the town council itself picked up the gift donations, before distributing them to families in the area.

Tammy Rose May, who works at the salon, said she and her colleagues were delighted with the scheme’s success, and plan to repeat it next Christmas.

The salon also received a letter of thanks from Cllr Geoff Corry, mayor of Towyn and Kinmel Bay, which Tammy said he delivered himself.

Tammy said: “The response we received for the gifts for children was much more than we could have imagined, with over 200 gifts, from scooters, roller skates to lots of lovely make-up gift sets.

“We were awestruck by the generosity; we couldn't have imagined this kind of response from the our community and our clients; it’s so heart-warming.

“We cannot thank everyone enough who donated, as this would have really made a difference to so many children and families this Christmas in our local community.

“Even though we didn't start this until quiet late on, the donations we received were just amazing.

“This year, we will be starting the donation drop-off a few weeks sooner. All of the team, and Cllr Macauley, look forward to seeing what can be achieved this year.”
