IT IS A COLD one this morning.

North Wales Police have received numerous reports regarding icy roads across North Wales and are urging motorists to "take extra care" whilst travelling.

Gwynedd Council have tweeted that the roads are "extremely icy" this morning in Caernarfon Bangor. Teams are out gritting primary routes for the second time.

Anglesey Council have also been out early this morning gritting primary routes.

Cold wintry conditions will continue into the weekend, before milder and wetter weather sweeps in bringing, at least, a temporary reprieve.

There are a number of National Severe Weather warnings in place for snow, ice and wind; there is a Yellow warning of snow, ice affecting Wales between 3am and 9pm on Sunday (December 18). A period of snow is expected to disrupt travel and other activities, before turning to rain later.

The UK will remain cold through rest of this week and into the weekend with the risk of sleet and snow at times continuing mainly across Northern areas.

Today's maximum temperatures across Conwy (Friday, December 16): Highs of around 4C and lows of 1C. On Saturday, highs of 6C and lows of 2C. In Rhyl, temperatures will reach a maximum of 5C and lows of 0C. The forecast for Saturday is highs of 6C and lows of 1C.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "[Today is] mostly dry with sunny spells today, but feeling cold.

"Some freezing fog patches may linger through the morning, but bright and sunny elsewhere. Showers possible at western coasts, these reaching further inland at times, and turning wintry over high ground. Cloudier later in the south and west. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

"Showers continue in the west overnight, and cloudy for most, although some clearer skies further east. Feeling cold with a risk of frost and freezing fog in the east. Minimum temperature -4 °C.

"Further showers on Saturday, particularly in the North and West, these wintry over high ground. Drier and brighter further south with sunny spells. Winds increasing from the west later. Maximum temperature 8 °C."

A spell of snow is said to be "likely" overnight into Sunday, with rain quickly following.

The spokesperson added: "Much milder than of late with further rain Monday. Drier but cloudy and a little cooler on Tuesday."
