Royal Mail and rail strikes is set to cause disruption to post and travel across North Wales today.

Rail strikes are to continue over the festive period after Network Rail Workers, yesterday, rejected a pay offer.

The dispute will continue as members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) will now press ahead with two 48-hour strikes at Network Rail – and 14 train companies – from Tuesday and Friday.

The RMT said 63.6% voted to reject Network Rail’s pay offer with an 83% turnout.

Avanti West Coast which operates across North Wales has advised passengers to only travel if necessary today as the timetable and operating hours are to be reduced significantly.

Transport for Wales will also be affected as the network has warned there will be: "no train services. Do not travel."

Friday 16 and Saturday 17 are also strike days therefore passengers are advised not to travel.

Trains running on days either side of strike days are likely to be extremely busy and a seat cannot be guaranteed, so customers are encouraged to get a full refund and rebook onto an alternative service.

The Royal Mail have also announced services will be disrupted today during industrial action.

National strike action is set to take place today, Wednesday 14 December as well as Thursday 15 December, Friday 23 December and Saturday 24 December 2022.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: "Royal Mail has well-developed contingency plans, but we cannot fully replace the daily efforts of our frontline workforce.

"We’ll be doing what we can to keep services running, but we are sorry this planned strike action is likely to cause you some disruption."

The Royal Mail has announced that on days when strike action is taking place they will; deliver as many Special Delivery and Tracked 24 parcels as possible, prioritise the delivery of COVID test kits and medical prescriptions wherever possible, not be delivering letters (with the exception of Special Delivery) or Door to Door mail and not be accepting customer handovers of Door to Door contracts at our Walk Bundling Centres.

The Royal Mail have advised customers to post items as early as possible in advance of the strike dates  and continue to post items at Postboxes or Post Offices, however collections will be less frequent on days when strike action is taking place.
