A COMMUNITY group in Rhyl is looking to raise money for the charity it is associated with by creating a risqué calendar.

Members of Rhyl Men’s Shed, which is part of the Brighter Futures charity and is based at its Wellington Road premises, have got their kits off to support the cause.

Shot in the summer in the back yard of the Men’s Shed by photographer and group member Richard Bates, the calendars cost £5 each.

Brighter Futures formed in 2018 and works to reduce social isolation, loneliness and poverty in Rhyl, offering services to children and young people, parents, the elderly, and those with disabilities.

Rhyl Men’s Shed is a strand of Brighter Futures which enables men to come together to pursue hobbies and interests, undertake community projects, or just make friends, in order to stave off loneliness and lead happier, healthier lives.

Stephen Johnson, sustainability co-ordinator at the Men’s Shed, is the calendar’s “Mr September”, a month for which the theme was “back to school”.

He said: “The lads come out with the idea that they wanted to do this calendar, so we made it all come together. It was all their idea!

“It was fun; we were a bit embarrassed at first because it was something we'd never done before, but all of the lads wanted to join in, so we thought the staff would have to join in as well.

“We've sold about 20 or 30 already, and we've got another hundred or so left to sell.”

The calendar can be bought at the Men’s Shed itself, and at a charity “Full Monty” night which the group is hosting at Elwy Hall on November 26.

This will also include music from “The Shed Heads”, as well as a raffle and a DJ.
