PROGRESS has continued in the transformation of a site in Rhyl into one which can be enjoyed by the community, visitors, and businesses.

Planning consent was approved last year for the construction of a new indoor market hall, event space and external landscaped area at the Queen’s Market building, as well as the refurbishment of the Queen’s Chambers building fronting Sussex Street.

In its latest update, Denbighshire County Council confirmed that the putting in place of a piled concrete solution on which the building will sit has now been completed.

The aim is for the new development to be finished by next summer.

A spokesperson for Denbighshire County Council said: “Work is progressing well on site with the piling now complete.

“We are currently carrying out the under-slab services and drainage, completion prior to summer 2023.”

Bodelwyddan-based Wynne Construction has been appointed by the council to carry out the design and construction of the site.

The indoor market hall will containing a mezzanine for additional seating and pop-up vendors, as well as the versatile event and commercial space.

The development includes 18 individual units, also including five hot food units, and a double-sided bar.

As part of the project, Wynne will maintain the character of the Queen’s Chambers on Sussex Street, preserving the traditional stone detailing at the old entrance of the building dating back to 1902.

Traditional brickwork and signage will also be installed to ensure the building sits comfortably into its surroundings.

The building is a key catalyst project within the council’s wider Rhyl regeneration programme.
