BUILDINGS in Denbighshire have been lit up in purple and white out of respect for Queen Elizabeth II following her death last week. 

The Queen died on Thursday, September 8 at the age of 96.

The longest-reigning monarch in British history, she spent 70 years on the throne.

The buildings including Rhyl’s Sky Tower (pictured above) were illuminated purple and white yesterday (September 12).

They will remain so until the day of the Queen’s funeral (Monday, September 19).

A statement from Denbighshire Leisure read: “Denbighshire Leisure Ltd and Denbighshire County Council are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, whose 70-year reign provided leadership and steadfastness during a period of huge change.

“She devoted her life to serving our country and the Commonwealth, and was admired and respected across the globe.

“First and foremost, Her Majesty was a much-loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and we send our sincere condolences to the Royal Family for their loss.

“From today until the day of the state funeral next Monday, Denbighshire Leisure Ltd and Denbighshire County Council will be lighting up buildings in purple and white, as a mark of respect to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.”
