RHYL Rotary Club inaugurated its first woman president at a ceremony yesterday evening.
Helen Thomas, whose husband Tony was previously a president, is the first female to hold the position in the club’s 97-year history.
Helen thanked the outgoing president Gordon Marshall for his successful year in office, having raised monies for several regional, national and international charities whilst also carrying out his duties as the club secretary.
Helen outlined her aspirations for her year in office, particularly supporting (amongst others) the Little Hearts Matter charity and North Wales Young Carers.
Lorna Fenwick from Young Carers gave a short talk on how they support youngsters who look after family members in need of care and attention.
This was followed by a talk and slide show by Anna Gresty from Little Hearts Matter, a charity which supports babies born with only half a working heart and their families.
Rhyl Rotary Club is the oldest of its kind in North Wales.
