A FIVE-year-old Rhyl boy with autism’s “eyes lit up” on Sunday (August 21) after he was presented with a tricycle paid for by a charity in the town.

Harry Grant, who suffers from mental health issues including autism and learning difficulties, received the trike from Rhyl organisation “Belief”, who paid £241 to buy it and have it assembled.

Belief became aware of Harry’s story after Sabrina Jones (the sister of Harry’s mother Rachel’s partner, Ben) set up a GoFundMe page to try and gather donations herself to buy Harry a trike.

When Harry received the trike on Sunday, Sabrina said his reaction “melted my heart”.

Sabrina said: “I was the one who set up the GoFundMe page for Harry to have the trike, because of his disabilities and mobility issues. I thought it would be nice to do something for him.

“With Harry’s learning difficulties, as well as his weight problems, I thought it was just a good idea to help him.

“He had never owned a bike before, but when he saw it, his eyes lit up.

“He said: ‘Wow! Is that for me?’. It really melted my heart. He got on it and peddled away. He absolutely loved it.

“I immensely appreciate what Belief have done for us and Harry; I’m extremely grateful.

“He’ll be able to go further as his legs won’t tire so quickly, and he’ll be able to be involved with other children of his age, so he’ll have more of a social life.”

Other kind gestures from Belief of late have included paying for the hiring of a mobile hoist to enable a disabled girl to go on holiday and donations to Prestatyn and Meliden Foodbank and North Wales Women's Centre.

In July, the group also paid £3,750 for a special bed for five-year-old Lola Hardy-Williams, from Rhyl, who was born prematurely and cannot sleep flat.

Steve Evans, founder of Belief, added: “It was an absolute pleasure meeting up with the fantastic Harry, Rachel and Ben, along with Sabrina.

“Upon seeing Sabrina had started a fundraiser in order to get Harry a trike, we had no hesitation in offering to purchase the trike for Harry.

“It has now arrived and been assembled, so today (August 21) we presented the trike to Harry - he loves it!

“The money raised by Sabrina will go towards safety equipment (helmet, pads etc) and anything left will kindly be donated back to us.

“However, we all agree that whatever is left over goes towards a family day out.

“Here's wishing this lovely family many hours of fun and all the very best.”
