A theatre producer and actor from Prestatyn is making huge strides in Australian theatre, with her latest production selling out at a renowned Sydney theatre.

Jane Angharad Thomas, who went to Prestatyn High School (where her father Don was deputy headteacher for more than 20 years), produced and acted in Albion, hailed by a Sydney Morning Herald theatre critic as “the real deal: the magic that keeps us returning to the theatre” in a five-star review.

Having sold out its initial ten-day run, it is set to run for another three weeks to meet the increased demand for tickets.

According to her sister Sarah, her love of the art form was kindled in Prestatyn.

“Jane started her appreciation of theatre with family trips to Theatr Clwyd”, said Sarah.

Soon, Ms Thomas joined the Prestatyn-based theatre group TiC run by Trevor Roberts, which “ignited her love of acting”.

The producer went on to study Drama and Literature at Royal Holloway University, but soon found her place in Australia, where Sydney’s theatre industry beckoned.

Through her production company, Secret House, many of the plays she has put on have been by Welsh playwrights, with her sister saying she “enjoys bringing Welsh culture to an Australian audience”.

Albion was first performed in the West End in 2017, and explores politics and patriotism and the seduction of nostalgia through the tale of difficult family life.

“I am so proud of Jane and her smash hit,” added Sarah.

“It shows how far across the globe Prestatyn pupils can make an impact and spread Welsh art.”

With Jane Angharad Thomas making such huge strides on the other side of the world, she is surely an inspiration to all in the arts in North Wales.
