DENBIGHSHIRE workers are being offered free workspace as part of International Coworking Day.

Costigan’s in Rhyl is offering free workspace for the day on August 9 to anyone who wants to explore a closer to home working option.

Coworking is the term given to a way of working where people from different companies, backgrounds and perspectives choose to work from a shared space.

As well as helping save costs in office rent and utility bills, coworking spaces act as community builders, where people naturally form friendships and working relationships by sharing challenges and successes together.

Sam Bevan, from Rhyl, was Costigan’s first member as they opened their doors last year.

In the early stages of setting up his videography company, Bevo Visuals, from his bedroom, it was his mum who found out about the new space in the town from a leaflet that she had picked up.

Working in a professional, collaborative environment, Sam has since taken his business to the next level, picking up jobs from networking opportunities and even pursuing it on a full time basis.

Sam said: “All I was looking for was an office space to work from to get out of the house, the concept of coworking was completely new to me.

“I wasn’t expecting to get the business support and community side of it, which has massively helped me to pick up more work and understand the admin and legal sides to running a business.

“I don’t have to go to the office, I could work from home if I wanted to, but I’d be missing out on that social environment where conversations are sparked and ideas are shared, which has also helped me to grow the business.

“It’s no longer just myself pushing the business - friends and then friends of friends that I’ve made from being in a common space are now recommending me and spreading the word.”

Costigan’s is run by coworking and small business experts, Town Square Spaces Ltd (TownSq) on behalf of Denbighshire County Council.

Owain Colwell, Community Manager for Costigan’s, said: “As more people and organisations embrace a hybrid working model, it's becoming clear that flexibility is key.

“Working from home is great, but you lose a lot of the benefits of working with other people.

“Similarly, commuting to an office takes away a lot of freedom and work/life balance that people are starting to prize.

“With fuel and home energy costs rising, people are seeking ways to mitigate the costs of living.

“International Coworking Day is a perfect way for local people to try out this way of working, and we’d encourage anyone thinking of giving it a go, to come along and try it for free.”
