THE opening date for Prestatyn’s new Home Bargains store has been confirmed, with work underway on the construction of the site.

The store, to be based on Gas Works Lane, will open its doors on Saturday, December 3.

Signage for Home Bargains is already in place at the site of the new store, with the chain also currently based in Prestatyn on the town’s High Street.

The new Home Bargains store in Prestatyn will include a garden centre and in-store bakery, and will create more than 70 jobs.

A spokesperson for Home Bargains said: "We are delighted to announce that our new Prestatyn store will open on December 3.

"Thanks to our investment, the new store will be more than three times the size of the current store.

“This will give us the space to showcase our whole range for our new and existing loyal customers.

“The additional square-footage has allowed us to include several exciting developments — an in-store bakery department and garden centre, providing an even greater selection of discount goods.

"We will need to recruit more than 70 new colleagues from the local community and all vacancies will be advertised on our website closer to the time.

“Potential candidates should visit jobs.homebargains.co.uk to find out more."

Plans were submitted in January 2020 for the land on Gas Works Lane for a large retail unit.

It is being built on the former site of the Prestatyn market, which closed in November 2021 after nearly 50 years of trading after it was sold by Northern Markets.

The market, which also held car boot sales, was open to the public on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and was comprised of roughly 150 stalls.

The site is located less than a five-minute walk from both the town’s bus and train station.

In November, traders at the market told the Journal they were “annoyed” and “devastated” by its closure to make way for the new Home Bargains store.
