DENBIGHSHIRE County Council (DCC) officials are to consider the next steps in dealing with the issue of numerous campervans and vehicles currently parked on Rhyl’s East Parade promenade.

An eyewitness told the Journal that “they arrived on Sunday (July 24)” and “have driven over the grass and ignored all signage”.

DCC is in the process of gathering information, and there will be a strategic meeting, either this afternoon (July 26) or tomorrow morning, to review the information and make a decision on what to do next.

In the meantime, bins have been delivered and access to toilets has been arranged for those travelling in the vehicles concerned.

This is not a new issue in Rhyl, after motorhomes parked illegally near the Eisteddfod Standing Stones on numerous occasions last summer.

Cllr Brian Blakeley (Rhyl Ty Newydd ward) said: “I am happy with what DCC is doing with this; I do feel that DCC is doing the right thing by supplying rubbish bins and access to toilets.

“But I was hoping that DCC would have something in place by now so this would not happen again. Unfortunately, this hasn’t happened.

“Until they sort this out, this is going to happen again. I just hope that this is resolved very quickly.”

A spokesperson for DCC said: “The council and North Wales Police have received notification of travellers setting up an unauthorised encampment parked on the promenade at East Parade in Rhyl.

“We have delivered toilets and bins to the site and will continue to monitor the situation and maintain contact with the group.

“The council’s response is informed by legislation and government guidance on unauthorised gypsy, Roma and traveller encampments.”

Anyone who witnesses any antisocial behaviour is urged to report it to North Wales Police through 101.
