WE asked Rhyl residents to reveal the most famous person they have met while wandering the streets of the town, and these are some of the answers.

Sandra Williams said hers was actor James Nesbitt, whom she had somehow met three times, adding it “Got embarrassing after bumping into him the third time”.

Mick Whewell said his was the iconic two-time snooker World Champion Alex Higgins, meeting him later in life and that “still owes me £20 I gave him towards his ferry home from Dublin.”

Melanie Tyler said famous comedy actor Rik Mayall, famous for his roles in The Young Ones and Bottom, as well as Flashheart in the Blackadder series, along with his frequent collaborator Ben Elton, who wrote both Blackadder and The Young Ones.

Paul Archer-Jones went for Prince Charles and wildlife presenter Michaela Strachan, among other members of the royal family, while Carol Woolley chose Princess Diana.

Helen Turberville met R&B singer Alexander O’Neal, appearing on stage with the singer at the Rhyl Pavilion, while Ann Tilakawardane met Beatle Paul McCartney as a little girl.

Janet Edge said Terry Wogan when the broadcaster famously opened the short-lived Rhyl Monorail in 1980, which she rightly added “closed a few weeks later because it kept breaking down”.

Other famous names were Coleen Nolan, Kerry Katona, Harry Secombe, Tony Christie and Alexandra Burke.
