A 62-year-old man from Rhyl has been given a suspended sentence after he made an offensive phone call to a woman.

Aled Parry, of Brickfield Park, pled guilty to a charge of sending a communication or article of an indecent or offensive nature.

In this case, it was a phone call made to a woman on May 14 this year.

On July 1, Llandudno Magistrates Court heard that the call “was, in whole or part, of an indecent or grossly offensive nature for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety to the recipient”.

A custodial sentence was justified due to the “serious nature of the comments”.

He was given a custodial sentence suspended for 12 months. The reason for the suspension was given as his guilty plea and health conditions.

However, during the eight weeks he will be fitted with an electronic tag and subject to a curfew.

He must remain as his home address between the hours of 7pm and 7am daily until August 25.

Parry must also pay costs of £85. An application has been made to deduct £20 per month from his benefits from August 1 until the amount is paid in full.

He must also pay £100 compensation to the victim.
